The Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) is a specialty membership organization focused on transportation and development professionals and the transportation and development industry. It is one of the American Society of Civil Engineer’s nine specialty Institutes.

The ASCE-T&DI Student Chapter at the University of Utah is the first T&DI student chapter in the U.S. With the sponsorship from ASCE-T&DI, it was established in Sep, 2015. The purpose of the ASCE T&DI Student Chapter is to gather students interested in transportation and urban development; and enable them to expand their knowledge through networking, meetings, presentations, and access to web-based and printed publications. The ASCE-T&DI Student Chapter at the U of U has Dr. Richard Porter as the advisor, Dr. Pedro Romero and Dr. Amanda Bordelon as co-advisors. As of spring 2016, the student chapter has 3 officers and 19 student members. In the past year, the student chapter held several events including academic seminars, guest lectures, and socials. Student members also had opportunities to attend academic and professional conferences such as the ASCE Utah Section Annual Meeting and the National Rural ITS Conference.
